Ads on www.oernoe.com, and What Search Does Not Keep

I am writing this at the end of August 2026 because people keep mixing the two. www.oernoe.com is a publisher site. Journal posts, legal pages, the brochure. Google AdSense is on it. The publisher ID you can see in the site source is not a secret marketing flex. It is a fact about this host. I will not claim the journal is ad-free. That claim would be a lie.

Search is at search.oernoe.com. Different host. Different job. Search is built not to turn your queries into an ad profile. That is the claim I can stand behind about Search. It is not a claim about this journal page. If a unit appears next to this paragraph, it is because you are on www.oernoe.com.

Cookies and ads have their own pages: /legal/privacy and /legal/cookies. Read those if you want the lawyer version. This post is the hallway version.

## What I will not say

I will not say "we don't track you" as a slogan covering every Oernoe host. I will not say "no ads anywhere." I will not say AdSense is "privacy advertising." I will not invent click-through rates, revenue, or a number of users. I will not tell you the journal is a search engine.

I will not tell you to install a blocker as if I were your parent. You can. Many people do. A blocker on this page is your choice. A blocker is not a substitute for knowing which host you are on.

## What this host is for

www.oernoe.com is where we publish. How-tos. Notes about what is live. Notes about what is not. Legal text. If you came here to search the web, you are on the wrong host. Go to search.oernoe.com. Bookmark that one for queries. Bookmark this one for posts if you like posts.

If a homepage card still dumps you on /blog instead of a slug, that is a site bug, not a Search bug. I do not ship the homepage. I ship the journal entries. I am telling you so you do not file the card as "Search is down."

## What Search is for

Queries. Public pages. The everyday lookup. I have other posts on how to spend a day with it and when it is the wrong tool. This one is only about the ads confusion.

A query you type at search.oernoe.com should not be treated as fuel for a profile that follows you around the journal. That is the point of putting Search on its own host and not feeding it to the publisher stack as a targeting pipe. If we fail that, it is a product failure and you can say so. You still should not paste the query into a ticket if the query is a paragraph of symptoms with a name. Short queries. Titles in tickets.

If Search shows you a result you hate, that is a ranking complaint. If this journal page shows you a unit you hate, that is a publisher complaint. Write the host in the first line or we will answer the wrong thing.

## How people mix them

They see an ad on a how-to and decide Oernoe Search sold their last query. Maybe they searched a medical term an hour ago. Maybe the unit is generic. You cannot tell from a feeling. Feelings are not logs. If you want to complain, give the host, the time, and whether you were on www or search. Do not paste the query if it is embarrassing. "A health query, then a unit on a journal page" is enough to start.

They read an old sentence that sounded like the whole company was ad-free. Some older pages were sloppy. I am not going to pretend I like that. This page is the correction for the journal.

They think accepting cookies on www is the same as turning Search into Gmail ads. Cookie banners are about this site. Search has its own job. Read /legal/cookies. I will not retype it.

## What I do as a reader of this site

I read the post. I ignore the unit if I can. I do not click things that look like the next paragraph but aren't. I do not download a "search app" from a store listing this journal did not publish. I do not enter my password into a page that is not account.oernoe.com or the host I meant.

If you came here from Search, you are allowed to leave without reading to the end. This is a journal, not a tunnel.

## AdSense and the six-minute bar

We keep journal posts substantial because thin stubs are junk, and junk is how a publisher site becomes a pile of doorways. That is an editorial choice. It is also a practical one. A two-sentence "coming soon" is not a page. I expanded a lot of those. I will not expand a coming-soon for Mail into a launch announcement. mail.oernoe.com does not even resolve. Android app posts that still sound like a store listing are not a store listing.

If you are here because you wanted Mail, I cannot give you Mail. If you are here because you wanted a private-ish lookup, Search is the host. If you are here because you wanted a how-to, you are in the right place, and yes, there may be an ad.

## If you only remember one split

www.oernoe.com publishes, and it can show ads.
search.oernoe.com looks things up, and it is not supposed to turn that lookup into an ad profile.
Legal pages sit on the publisher site with the rest of the brochure.

If someone tells you Oernoe is "the ad-free Google," they are not describing this URL. Send them to Search, and send them to /legal/privacy. Then let them decide.

Publisher site. Ads possible. Search separate. That is the honest version, and it is the one I will keep publishing.


## What I tell people who want a number

I do not have a public number of queries, users, or dollars to hand you. If a post invents one, it is not this post. "Millions of users" is a phrase I will not use. "The journal pays for itself with units" is a guess I will not dress up as a metric.

If you need the legal description of ads and cookies, it is on this host, under legal. If you need a lookup, it is on Search. If you need both, you open both. You do not get a single switch labeled privacy that also funds a publisher.

## Kids reading this page

If a child is on www.oernoe.com, they are on a publisher site. Units can show. That is not Search babysitting them. Sit with them or use whatever controls you already use for the rest of the web. I will not invent an Oernoe kids mode.

If they needed a homework lookup, send them to search.oernoe.com and stay in the room. If they needed a how-to, stay here and expect a unit.

Two hosts. Two jobs. Ads possible here. Queries over there. Keep the complaint on the host that earned it.
